General was bold enough to comment:

It's hardly fair to say there has been a perfect circle just becasue you have thought of one.

If you can let that go you can also say that green hippos with wings that breathe fire exist just beacuse I have just thought of one.

Well who's to say they don't exist. Maybe your mind is the true existance and todays conventional reality is nothing but a twisted product of your own mind.

I hereby submit that we are all nothing but figments of Generals overactive imagination. Ready... Discuss!

"You have a grain of sand is it a heap?, you now have 2, 3, x, grains of sand is it a heap?"

This is very similar to the Buddhist reasoning about how nothing exists inherently. For example you got a flower and take of a petal, is it still a flower? Keep taking off petals and at some point you decide it stops being a flower. Where has the flower gone and did it ever exist from its own side?

Also Anarain I'm getting this sort of image of you right now:

And I like it.

Like Theseus' boat. When he got home from an epic voyage, he parked his boat up and went off to put his feet up. Over the course of the following years, bits of the boat rotted away, planks needed replacing, the mast went wonky, someone drew on the sail, until eventually the whole thing was a different boat from the one Theseus arrived home in. The process took years, but afterwards, was it the same boat? When did it change? And what did Theseus say when he noticed?

"By gum, what idjet went and parked this pointless pile of wooden crap here? I can hardly get me car out the garage!"

So the real question is what it his car in the garage, or had it become the spider's home? (Said spider lived inside the left hand wing-mirror having been picked up one holiday to france. He'd decided he quite like his cosey little wing mirror, since it was all warm, he got watch himself pull stunts, and the flies never noticed...)

Even spookyer all your cells die and regenrate every so often so it's quite likely you contain none of the same atoms you did when you were born.
So are you the same person you used to be?

Yeah that's a whole 1 man crusade against Madam Jolie (see this one in watershed - http://forum.thedaddy.org/view_thread.html?ref_id=12410 - work safe for the moment). I see what you're saying bud but you sound like you're in need of some calming mint tea and perhaps a breathing meditation - http://www.crystalforest1.homestead.com/MEDITATIONbreathingexcercises.html

a percentage of the 1% of things that existed before Last of the Summer Wine must surely be...a bath-on-wheels or a barrel.

actually, maybe i'm wrong.

my reasoning was going to be that, for Compo, Foggy and 'the other one' to have been able to engage in such zany antics (i.e. rolling down a hill in a barrel or using a bath on wheels to simultaneously escape the clutches of Nora AND help their friend rondezvous(?) with his mistress behind a drystone wall) then the afore-mentioned bath/barrel must have already existed.
however, whilst considering this notion, i began to wonder - what if the bath-on-wheels/barrel is in fact an original invention by they LotSW guys that has been manipulated by society to fit some other purpose?
just like most household toolkits have been replaced by a high-heeled shoe and a butter knife.

wont somebody think of the children?

So about three seconds ago I was 99.99r% sure that I'd found a nice picture of a blue toilet to share with the group.

But it turned out I wasn't 100% sure. So from this we can prove that 0.99r does not equal 1.

Unless of course we hit it with a high-heeled shoe to get it to fit...

Hey, wait a second - didn't some dinosaurs lay eggs? Or was that tortoises?

Surely by that logic the egg was around long before a not-chicken so the light of day!

And General, can I just say - dang you've got a weird imagination. I mean I'm fine with most things, but what were you on when you decided that a billed amphibious mammal that lays eggs, has a beavers tail and is deadly poisonous was a good idea?

I've always thought that the egg being a chickens egg was implicit in the question.

And on the platipus front hey everyone has nightmares!

Now that is one funky cool animal! That's amazing! I'm guessing you can't get them as pets but they must be fascinating to watch swim, all waving arms and manic movements...
