Mildred was bold enough to comment:

Mew! It's not fair! Right, the little pink peg that is Mildred is now going to construct a miniscule placard complaining about the government's discriminatory tuition fee policy, grrrrr!!

Arabstrap, your randomly-selected career is Salesperson, and your salary is 25,000 (paying a potential 6,500 tax - explained later). You begin the game with the usual 3,000, and have spun a 9, taking you to this square:

Your aunt dies. Inherit 50,000.

...placing both of the Careerites several heads and shoulders above the Universityites. For now...

Excuse me for mentioning it, but can I interest you in a panoramic print of York - http://www.panoramicyork.co.uk ? No? Oh well - just thought I'd ask.

Next is Clara, who has selected University and thererefore an immediate debt of 25,000. Clara, you have spun a 4, taking you to "Buy books, pay 2,000. You therefore have a mere 1,000 left - and, of course, the credit card. It's not looking good...

Over, then, to Kelly, also a university-student-type, who spins a 3, landing on "Scholarship, receive 10,000". A promising start, leaving you with 13,000 cash plus a 25,000 credit card debt. Not bad for a mere student!

OK, that's one round completed. Back to Mildred, who spins a 9, thereby landing on "Bonus pay - receive 3,000". Congratulations, Mildred!

However... on your way to this auspicious space, you have passed the Career Choice square. This means that, as a graduate, you get to pick from a choice of three randomly-selected careers and three randomly-selected salaries. I shall Private Message your choices to you imminently.

All players, please note: each salary has a corresponding level of Tax associated with it. Usually this is irrelevant, but there are 5 or 6 squares throughout the game on which the word TAX is written. When anybody lands on one of these, the wheel is spun, and if it ends up pointing to your occupation you must pay your predetermined level of tax. It doesn't happen very often, but you may or may not wish to bear it in mind when choosing your salary.

We await Mildred's choice with great anticipation...

We apologise to viewers for this interruption in gameplay. This is due to our awaiting Mildred's career and salary selection.

We will endeavour to return to the game as soon as possible; in the meantime, here's a little music.

Whoops! Naughty Mildred! Please do all free to whallop me over the head with a copy of the Radio Times (or any other lightweight reading material which is to hand) for causing this little delay!

Right, for my career I have chosen to be an artist, and my salary is $18,000 - exciting!

As an artist, my work principally involves avant garde knitting (influenced by the work of germaine koh http://www.germainekoh.com/knitwork.html ), and kitten sculptures made out of teaspoons (with the odd polar bear sculpture thrown in for good measure).

I must apologise at this point - I had inadvertently miscalculated the spaces (probably due to having moved the gameboard around while putting things in the attic. That's a real attic, not a The Game Of Life attic) and put Mildred on the wrong square. I have now updated my previous post to convey accurately the good news.

Mildred, you now own a total of 24,000, plus one credit card.

Next we return to Spanners, who spins a 2, landing on "Receive a free life insurance certificate". (These are explained here.)

Well done, Spanners! You now have 57,000 in cash as well.

Swoop, sadly, misses a turn. We joyously await your return next time, Swoop.

Over to Arabstrap, then: including this turn's salary, you currently have 78,000. However, you've spun a 1 and landed on:

Casino. Receive 20,000. Keep it or risk it for 60,000.

The rules for the Casino are simple: you can either keep your 20,000 and walk away, or you can bet on two numbers (from 1-10). I spin the spinner, and if one of your numbers comes up, you win 60,000!

And your decision is...?

...and the spinner is spun...

...round and round it spins...

...and it lands on...

NINE

Bad luck, 'Strap! You leave, in the style of The Weakest Link, with nothing.

Over to Clara, who spins a 10 and has therefore reached the Career Choice stage. As a graduate, Clara, you get to choose between three careers and three salaries - these have been PMd to you. We await your selection.

Excellent. Clara is duly hired as a teacher, with a salary of 24,000. That puts you with a total wealth of 25,000, plus one credit card.

Next is Kelly, who spins a 1 and lands on "Buy books - pay 2,000." Bad luck, Kelly! Your total wealth is now 6,000.

Back now to Mildred, who spins a 9 and lands on "Buy a wedding dress - Pay 3,000." The Big Day approaches, Mildred - are you getting excited?

Spanners next, who spins a 5 and lands on "Bonus pay - receive 5,000" Crikey, Spanman, you're raking it in so far- a total of NINETY THOUSAND and a life insurance certificate!

And finally, Swoop spins a 9 and rockets forward to "Get engaged - pay 1,000 for engagement ring". Looks as though Mildred and Swoop are battling it out to participate in the second ever DaddyDotOrg wedding...

Swoop, you must now make your career and salary choices. The options have been PMd to you.

I'd like to be a scientist please, and I'd like to earn ?22,000 per week. I was tempted by the rock star option, but really, all those nubile groupies, all the drugs, owls, gratuitous sex and hedonism? I'm playing this game to escape my real life, not recreate it!

Fair enough - scientist it is. Our congratulations to you. You now have 22,000 and one credit card.

Arabstrap, then, spins a 5 and lands on a much-hallowed square:

Get married. Spin the wheel for your wedding presents.

Arabstrap therefore has a charming wife joining him on that car journey we call Life, represented by a small pink peg in the passenger seat. The wedding presents work as follows - the wheel is spun. If it lands on numbers 1, 2 or 3, each player must give Arabstrap 4,000. If it's 4, 5 or 6, he gets 2,000 from each player. If it's 7-10, he receives nothing.

(Bear in mind that this is a square on which every player will have to stop, even if you spin a higher number.)

And the gods of the Spinning Thing have decreed that the number shall be.... TWO! Arabstrap, you receive a total of 20,000 in wedding presents, and all other players are 4,000 poorer. Your generosity touches me.

Mr. Strap's total wealth is now a staggering 123,000.

We move now to Clara, who spins a 3 and lands on "Go to a ball. Pay 2,000". Hope you enjoy it, Clara.

Back, then, to Kelly, our highly indebted student, who spins a 9, landing on "Career Choice"! Finally, the world of the wage-earner awaits you. Your options have been sent and we await your decision.

OK - the time has come for a round-up of the current state of play. Positions on the board are as follows:

and the players, in alphabetical order, are:

Arabstrap, a salesperson earning 25,000, with 123,000 savings

Clara, a teacher earning 24,000, with 43,000 and 1 credit card

Kelly, a lawyer earning 27,000, with 4,000 savings, 3 credit cards and 3 life insurance certificates.

Mildred, an artist earning 18,000, with 35,000 savings and 1 credit card

Spanners, an athlete earning 30,000, with 86,000 savings and 1 life insurance certificate

Swoop, a scientist earning 22,000, with 20,000 savings and 1 credit card

I would like, at this point, to draw everyone's attention again to the credit card and life insurance systems (click here to see them) - ignore these at your potential peril!

I am EXTREMELY excited! It was rather difficult picking out a wedding dress to fit an approx 5mm long plastic peg, but in the end I opted for this model, altered to fit:

I am also rather looking forward to receiving the wedding gifts I must say - with my measly $18k salary I am going to need all the extra cash I can get!

Mildred, I'm delighted you are embracing the event to such an extent. It is now, in fact, your turn - you have spun a 4 and have therefore arrived at...

...your own wedding!

And, let me say, it was a beautiful event. I enclose a photo of the beautiful bride in her delightful dress:

And as for the wedding presents... you have spun a 6, and therefore receive 2,000 from each player. Well done!

Straight on with the game, though - it's now the turn of Spanners the Exceedingly Highly Paid Athlete, who spins a 6 and therefore gets married himself! Eee, I'm so proud.

Presents-wise, you have spun a 4 and are therefore also awarded 2,000 from each player. Not that you need it, of course.

We proceed to Swoop, who spins a 3 and lands on "Buy a wedding dress - pay 3,000". Mildred can offer you some advice, Swoop, if you need it.

Arabstrap spins a 5 and hurtles forward to "Move abroad, pay 8,000". All the best for the move, Arabstrap. If any of you other players had been a pilot, the 8,000 would have gone to you - but nobody qualifies. Maybe next time.

Next up is Clara, who spins a 4 and lands on "Get engaged - pay 1,000 for engagement ring." Hope it's a nice one, Clara.

We'll leave the action there for the time being, to give everyone a chance to digest the day's exciting events so far. Stay tuned!

Crikey, that's some ring! In honour of it, we move on to Kelly's turn. She spins a 7 and proceeds to "Win a local lottery - receive 25,000". An outstanding success, Kelly!

Back, now, to Mildred, who spins a 5 and lands on "Night School - pay 10,000." That's one expensive night school, Mildred. And now the careers start to come into their own - as a teacher, Clara gets the 10,000! Comiserations and congratulations respectively.

We move next to Spanners, who spins a 7 and lands on "Bonus pay - receive 5,000". And we all drink a toast to the unique way the BBC is funded.

Next is Swoop, who spins a 2 and is therefore getting married! Our congratulations to you both, Swoop. And for your wedding presents: the wheel is spun, and you receive 2,000 from each player. Spend it wisely.

I'll spend it all on bread, butter and toasters, with the change going to fund skimpy nightwear for my new bride! Thanks guys, although I notice that Arabstrap got twice as much when he got married. You ratfinks!

My wife's called Alabaster by the way, but she had eccentric parents so it's not her fault. She likes heat but hates beige.

Thanks to Swoop for that little insight into daily life.

Next turn is Arabstrap, who spins a 7 and therefore lands, AGAIN, on "Casino. Receive 20,000. Keep it or risk it for 60,000". Same rules as before - either keep the 20 and walk away, or bet it on two numbers. If either of them is spun, you get 60 instead.

What's the decision, Arab?

Wahey, I'm liking the life of an athlete! It's just a bit of running about after all, barely a job.

Alas, yes. . . My new friends in the Cayman Islands have prooved themselves a bad influence. Again, like a desperate lottery player hoping to one day clinch that life-changing fortune, i will use the same numbers....4 and 7.

And the number is...

FIVE.

Bad luck, Arabstrap! Still, you're exceedingly rich already, so I personally won't be losing too much sleep over it.

Next comes Clara, who spins a 7 (Arabstrap must be veritably weeping at this news) and therefore gets married! Hooray! It brings a tear to my eye, it really does. As for wedding presents, she spins a 2 and therefore receives 4,000 from each player! A highly profitable wedding, Clara - which, after all, is what these occasions are all about.

We now move onto Kelly (not literally, of course, but it's her turn). She spins a 6, bringing her to the magical moment of... Her wedding day! Congratulations, of course, to Kelly. I won't offer to post any photos of this occasion as there are plenty on the forum already.

And, as for the presents, a 2 is spun, meaning 4,000 from each player. You old mercenary, you.
