Righty it's time to start thinking about the grand adventure of 2006 and I need ideas.
The current leader is four weeks training to be a safari guide in South Africa. Includes tracking and bush driving! (I said DRIVING)

However I'm still strongly considering Asia and Canada - Pacific North-West end of things.
Also does anyone wanna come?

Seriously though, how much of the UK have you seen? Personally I've always wanted to take a week or two to spend some time seeing Leeds, and Manchester, and Aberdeen, and Inverness, and Penzance, and Carlisle, and East Didbury, and Durham...

Why not take a whole week (or two, three, four) to see how far you can get in these fine shores?

How about Narnia?
On the other hand, East Didbury sounds nice...

are you sure its not East Didsbury? if so, its only worth visiting if you like being surrounded by brash students and upper-middle class pretention.

I've tried to go to Narnia before but I got thrown out of Ikea for unauthorised entry of their wardrobes.
I do like the venturing round the UK idea. Particulary Scotland and south-eastern England which remain a mysery to me.

And there's no way I'd venture into East Didbury without a compass, some snorkelling apparatus and gun containing silver bullets. You never know what you'll run into down there...

I heartily recommend the pennine way; it's fantastic. East Didsbury is wholly unpleasent, although if you ever decide to visit manchester and wish to avoid bumping into any real mancunians, go there.

A week of camping around Moss Side would be much more entertaining.

a thumb, of gigantic proportions!

Anyone wanting a tour guide for East Didsbury should look me up - the inhabited parts may be a haven for white middle-class snobs with upper-class pretensions, but it's built on some seriously nice woodlands. Fletcher Moss park (and the adjoining areas) is so large it would take you days to see it all, and there's miles of hidden woodlands, paths, streams and places so well hidden they've hardly ever seen human visitation except by the occasional band of 13 year-olds on late night cider-fuelled explorations. I spent the first 18 years of my life exploring the place sporadically, and I've still got several spots mentally bookmarked for further exploration

I buried my hamster in a spot there so well hidden I never even managed to find it again myself

R.I.P. Klash, I'm sure he's kicking gerbil arse in Rodent Heaven right now.

I will certainly second the UK holiday idea.

I've just got back from the north Norfolk coast. Before I went the first time, I didn't think beaches of that beauty existed in the UK.

Also, check out the Northumbrian coast - Bamburgh castle is magnificent.

In East Anglia all things are possible (except maybe hills)

The people I've met on my American adventure have just informed me that they're organising a leaving party for me. Everyone's going to have to be very nice to me when I come home, or I might be tempted to stay here!

You know, I love the fact that there was an 18-month - yes, eighteen month - gap in this thread and then it carried on like nothing had happened. My, the art of conversation is a wonderful thing.
