Yes, today marks the fourth birthday of the place, and haven't we come a long way!

From here....

http://web.archive.org/web/20030711194838/http://forum.spannersinc.co.uk/

to here...

http://web.archive.org/web/20040927063636/http://forum.thedaddy.org/

to here...

http://web.archive.org/web/20050209125223/http://forum.thedaddy.org/

And so on and so forth until we get to the present day marvel that is TDDO.

Unfortunately most of the pages on those archive links aren't backed up, but there are a few dotted around. You can find more for yourself here:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://forum.spannersinc.co.uk
and here:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://forum.thedaddy.org

And now I invite you to share some of your favourite memories / threads from the last four years

I still think this is one of the funniest threads ever, despite the appaling camerawork:
http://forum.thedaddy.org/view_thread.html?ref_id=3878&id=3903&start=0
(warning - musical thread!)

And of course, in a similar vein... who could forget Spanners' dancing lessons:
http://forum.thedaddy.org/view_thread.html?ref_id=3117&id=3216&start=0

But my personal favourite wasn't a comedy thread, it was the ultimate wedding thread for Malcolm and Kelly:
http://forum.thedaddy.org/view_thread.html?ref_id=4424&id=4965&start=0

I've just realised I've chosen 3 of my own threads there. However, they're not about me so I don't feel too bad about it

And for purely historical interest for those who haven't already stumbled across it, here is the very first thread ever to grace the forums:

Happy birthday everyone!
I can't believe it's been 4 whole years already, thank you all for making this place what it is today - a collection of friends from all diferent corners of the world and different walks of life, educating, entertaining and informing in our own little corner of cyberspace.
I can't tell you how pleased it makes me that we're still going so strong.

Lookout for a special birthday Forum challenge to be set by our own General with genuine TDDO prizes up for grabs

Huzzah and hurrah! Happy Birthday TDDO! I think a well deserved tip of the hat and round of drinks to those who work behind the scenes keeping this place functioning is in order, and another big thanks to all the members who have kept this place a great corner of the internet to come to.

Happy birthday thedaddy.org from one of your newest children!

I'd get you a radio controlled plane but I don't think you'd have much use with it what with you being a website and therefore not having any hands.

I don't think I've been here long enough to have any proper memories, but I did enjoy watching Spanners dancing just now. What a great way to start the day. You should turn it into an exercise video.

I would like to second Feign's tip of the hat to all the people who put the electronic grease in the well-oiled machine that is this forum.

Ahhh...nice to see my complete lack of forum savvy has been captured for all eternity on TDDO first post!

That certainly brought back memories! Thanks Demian!

For chuckles, I quite enjoyed the "Lets all write Haikus" thread - it was certainly one the first times I realised how creative TDDO was.

They queried me once
are you as you appear sir
no, im a haddock

From a purely self-indulgent point of view, the nostalgic ramblings of Jog's Big Brummie Sofa always bring a smile to my face. As does the thoght of using General as a pin board...
http://forum.thedaddy.org/view_thread.html?ref_id=1644&id=2629&start=0

As many know, I also enjoy some of the threads in The Big Questions. There was one, which I now can't find, which was particularly important to me. It was on the question of atheism and marked a really mega point in my own little journey on this planet. It was certainly the first time I had tried to write succintly about my beliefs and really helped me to understand how I was feeling. I want to thank TDDO for giving that opportunity.

Happy Birthday indeed!

P.S. Diz, you rock!

Well, thanks for that run-down, Demian. An excellent way to start a Monday, reading all of those! And I feel strangely proud of our wedding being the topic of your favourite thread, despite the fact that I did very little indeed to contribute to the thread itself.

Like Jog, I see this as a place that has afforded me opportunities to create, think, write and consider things I probably wouldn't have done otherwise, so would like to salute everyone for contributing to an atmosphere that enables that. In fact, despite now having a moderately successful sideline in photo-editing (in case anyone hasn't noticed the banner at the bottom!), I have to say that still my absolute proudest bit of my own work was this picture here:

(if anyone doesn't know where that's from, I'll leave you to discover it yourselves).

But special congratulations for creativity must of course go to Diziet for his first post on this very thread. Truly spectacular!

Happy Birthday one and all!

If we're now four, does that mean we start school soon? We'll have to go shopping for blazers and gym kit. Oh and funky pencil cases!
